Healthcare

Although significant effort is being done to bring it down, child mortality in Malawi is still at a very high level: 8.3% of children die before the age of five. Shortage of medical staff in hospitals is a significant problem. A ratio of 1 nurse to 100 children is not an exception, which leads to many children dying unnecessarily. Medulawi finances (education of) additional personnel in existing hospitals.

For many years, Medulawi has been sponsoring a nurse (first Jackie, then Zibuka and from Nov 2022 on Sarah) as additional staff at the paediatric ward of the Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital.
