Education
40% of the population in Malawi can't read or write. Primary school is free of charge, but secondary school requires school fees, so only the privileged few currently attend. This lack of nationwide education is one of the main reasons why poverty in Malawi continues. Medulawi wants to break this vicious cycle by funding secondary education as well as further professional education (at existing schools) for motivated children who would otherwise not be able to pay their fees.
Since the foundation of Medulawi in 2008, hundreds of children have been able to follow secondary education. We collaborate with 2 local boarding schools in Thyolo and Luchenza. The children are being selected and supported by our local team of volunteers in Malawi: Rosena, Frank, James and Diekens.
